Enviva Fund Awards $500,000 in Forest Protection Grants
The Nature Conservancy North Carolina Chapter and the Triangle Land Conservancy each received grants Thursday from the Enviva Forest Conservancy Fund to assist in the purchase and protection of land that spans more than 2,000 acres.
The Enviva fund will award more than $500,000 in 2016 as part of the first year of a 10-year, $5 million program to protect bottomland forests — low-lying, marshy areas near rivers and streams that are home to tree species such as cypress, gum and oak — in northeast North Carolina and southeast Virginia.
